Jewel Staite Stargate Stories That Will Make You Laugh

Jewel Staite plays the word association game—”Stargate: Atlantis” style.

Jewel Staite has more Stargate memories that she knows what to do with. She loved working with Joe Flanigan, Paul McGillion, and Amanda Tapping. And when it comes to David Hewlett, the Stargate: Atlantis actress sums him up in one word (hint: it has to do with food).

What is the first thing that Jewel Staite thinks about Joe Flanigan?

Malibu. Surfing. Bandanas. The man likes his bandanas.

What single word does Jewel Staite use to describe David Hewlett while filming Stargate?

Sandwiches!

What does Jewel Staite most remember about Stargate‘s Robert Cooper?

Coop! Writer extraordinaire.

What does Jewel Staite most remember about filming “Brainstorm” on Stargate: Atlantis?

COLD. They put me in a freezer truck for this episode and then we found out we were cancelled while I was in the freezer truck. Not cool. I mean, literally cool. But not cool.

You know?

How does Jewel Staite describe Atlantis’s Wraith, Michael Kenmore?

Evil genius. Plus I’m a huge fan of Connor Trinneer as an actor and as a person, so I’m biased.

What three words does Jewel Staite use to describe Paul McGillion from Stargate: Atlantis?

Loyalty. Big bro. BFF.

Paul and I are very tight, and he knows everything there is to know about me. He’s a big brother to me, he was the MC at my wedding, and I love the snot out of him.

What does Jewel Staite remember about working with Rachel Luttrell on Stargate: Atlantis?

Giggles. She’s a giggler, that one.

What’s the first thing that Jewel Staite thinks of when recalling the Stargate comedy “Duet”?

Makeout sesh.

How does Jewel Staite describe Stargate‘s Joe Mallozzi?

Three piece suit. Food. Seriously, he was always in a suit and always looked fabulous and was also always eating.  You go to a restaurant with Mallozzi, and you best be prepared to eat the entire menu.

How does Jewel Staite describe Stargate’s Amanda Tapping?

Hero.  I love everything about that lady.  Her humour, her kindness, her generosity, her class. She’s a knockout.

What’s the first thing that Jewel Staite thinks of when recalling the Stargate episode “Trio”?

DIRT! So much dirt! We shot in a tiny room full of dust and literally dirt and were covered in it by the end of each shooting day. We were also big babies when it came to the stunt stuff and demanded production buy us massages after the episode was over.

That’s what you get for putting Jewel and David in stunt scenes!

What’s the first thing that Jewel Staite thinks of when recalling the Stargate episode “Trio”?

3 a.m. The time my alarm went off for my my first day to get to work and get into hair and makeup. Know what time Starbucks opens? 5 a.m.

What does Jewel Staite think about when hearing the name of Brad Wright from Stargate?

Airplane! The last time I saw Brad we happened to be sitting next to each other on a flight from Toronto to Vancouver and it was a lovely surprise.

How does Jewel Staite describe Jason Momoa?

Great Dane Puppy.  Sweet Jay.  Larger than life, generous, and as delicious as pie. I adore him. Everything that’s happened to him success-wise, he entirely deserves.

What does Jewel Staite recall about working with Christopher Heyerdahl on Stargate: Atlantis?

Masterful. This guy can really do it all. He’s the kind of actor you can just sit back and watch and lose your place in the scene.

What’s the first thing that Jewel Staite thinks of when thinking about Vancouver?

Home.

What does Jewel Staite recall about working with Martin Wood on Stargate: Atlantis?

Eagles. I know, weird association. He told me a story a long time ago about a huge eagle in the park that flew down and tried to pick up his 2 year old and I’ve never forgotten it.

Thanks for the nightmares, Martin!

What does Jewel Staite remember about craft services on Stargate?

SIGH.  Best food of my life was on SGA.  Best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had. We all got addicted to them. We called them crack sandwiches. It was bad. The clothes stopped fitting.

What does Jewel Staite recall about working with Andy Mikita on Stargate: Atlantis?

Loveable. Andy is just fun. Silly, happy, great to be around.

Super smart and fast-moving on set, knows what he wants and gets it, but it’s always a fun set when he’s at the helm.

What does Jewel Staite remember about Stargate Atlantis’s David Nykl?

Delightfully sarcastic. David and I have a similar sense of humour. There have been several occasions at conventions where our eyes meet about something going on and we start laughing our heads off.

What does Jewel Staite remember about Stargate’s Christopher Judge?

Best collection of pants I’ve ever seen.  He has one pair covered in cartoon kitty cats.  Only Chris can pull that look off.

How does Jewel Staite describe Michael Shanks from Stargate?

Handsome as hell. Debonair. And has the best gossip.
